Quick Answer
Coffee (+20 sanity) and Chocolate Bars (+40 sanity) are the main sanity restorers. The Secretary class recovers sanity on check-in, Doctor/Surgeon recover sanity on healing. Avoid looking at Camera Figures and don't pick up Cursed Photos.
Sanity Basics
Sanity is your most important resource. If it reaches zero, your run ends immediately.
Sanity Restorers
| Item | Cost | Effect | Unlock Shift |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coffee | 5 AC | +20 Sanity | Shift 1 |
| Chocolate Bar | 10 AC | +40 Sanity | Shift 2 |
Always buy Coffee at the start of every shift. It's the cheapest sanity insurance in the game.
Class-Based Sanity Recovery
Different classes handle sanity differently:
- Intern: +10 bonus starting sanity
- Secretary: Recovers sanity when checking in patients at reception
- Doctor: Recovers sanity when successfully healing patients
- Surgeon: Recovers sanity + temporary speed boost when healing
- Psychologist: Double sanity effects — coffee heals twice as much, but sanity damage is also doubled
Sanity Dangers to Avoid
| Threat | Sanity Cost | How to Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Camera Figure on CCTV | Rapid drain while watching | Look away from monitor immediately |
| Cursed Photo (picked up) | -10 instantly | Look at photo on desk first, don't pick up |
| Ceiling Eyes (Don't Look Up) | Continuous while looking up | Keep camera pointed down, use Eye Drops |
| Stalker eye contact | Rapid drain | Never look directly at it, face away |
| Skinwalker attack | Heavy damage per hit | Use Taser/Gun, run to safe room |
| Room fire | 1/sec while nearby | Use Fire Extinguisher |
Sanity Management Strategy
- Always start with Coffee — buy one at the start of every shift
- Upgrade to Secretary or Doctor — passive sanity recovery reduces item dependency
- Monitor CCTV carefully — look away the moment you see a dark figure
- Check photos on the desk — never pick up a photo before inspecting it
- Keep one emergency coffee — save it for when sanity drops below 30%
- Feed the Head Banger — if it blocks your shutters, give it Coffee to make it leave
